Hi Gabby! I like your topic for the final project very much, and this abstract beauty makes me want to see more pictures of this series! The idea of bringing plants to life with different patterns of vessels was very surprising and full of visual aesthetics. We all know that the forms of flowers and vessels are usually still, but the combination of them allowed me to see different sides of nature and created a feeling deeper than beauty.
I noticed that there are 6 photos of the single color flower and the last one includes several kinds of color, which makes me stare for a while. The beige color of photo 1 creates a warm and quiet atmosphere, which makes me imagine a gentle girl reading books in the garden at 4 or 5 o 'clock in the afternoon. It's a good start to the essay and the composition is great with attract the flower and enough space to show the sense of flow. Photo 2 & 3 have a flow pattern that is opposite to photo 1 and creates a feeling of flowers growing wildly. The lights are fine. But I think it loses the focal point, especially it's too blur in the middle of the photo that made me out of the focus a little bit in photo 2. I think it would be better to increase the distance between the lens and the object and leave some space on both sides of the screen when shooting this kind of small flower. Photo 4 is an amazing one with good DOF. It's interesting that I can see the original flower, the flower that covered by vessel, and the light sprinkled on the flowers through the vessel, I can tell that day is a nice sunny day even you didn't shot any sunlight or bright background. Photo 5 is really attractive because the grain of the vessel seems to soften the plants and obscure the true appearance of the flowers to add a sense of mystery. However, the clear and sharp lines presented by the protruding vessels distract my sight. It's like the battle between sensibility and reason. Nice composition and balance on this one. About photo 6, it seems you created a motion by moving the vessel to show the jumping and disengaging forms. Nice POV, lines, and contrast in this one. I really like the last one with strong contrast of color! It's interesting that there is a flower in normal form, which is in sharp contrast to the flowers that have been reshaped by the pattern of vessels, and they are more vivid and lively. Wonderful end of the essay!
I am thinking that if you could try more POVs -- although this project itself is already a novel POV-- to change the trend of pattern, such as horizontal, spreading from the middle to the sides, etc., and whether facing directly or facing away from the sun may enrich the sense of painting and get more visual aesthetic inspiration. Overall, it's a perfect final project and I can see you've got great shooting skills! Congratulations Gabby!
